Why we had chosen this solution?
FINALISED IDEA
We have decided to go with rubber sticker , as it would be a greater solution for mass production.
It will be easy to start this product as it will not require any complicated methods .We have specifically chosen this materials for our rubber sticker .
•Shape – different kind of patterns
•Material : Ethylene-Propylene
•Patter on sticker – hatch pattern
•Layers – Neoprene cement glue ,
ethylene propylene rubber
and Ultra-Ever dry hydrophobic coating
Why Neoprene cement glue ? -
Neoprene-cement glue can be used for
many different materials,paper ,plywood,
thermal plastic rubber ,crepe and leather.
The main advantage of neoprene cement
glues for shoes is that it works on wide range
of materials ,including all those most commonly
found in shoes. It is a common choice for shoe
repair due to its versatility, strength,anti-corrosion
within the gluing surface and quick drying time.
Why ethylene propylene rubber ?
Ethylene-propylene compounds are prepared from
ethylene and propylene and usually a third monomer
,these compounds are use frequently to seal in
brake systems, and for sealing hot water and steam .
We used this rubber because excellent weather resistance .and good heat resistance.
Why Ultra-Ever dry hydrophobic coating ?
The Ultra-Ever Dry coating is super-hydrophobic and oleophobic ,
meaning it repels almost any liquid on a wide range of materials .
The two part Ultra-Ever Dry system creates a near invisible barrier of
air over surfaces on the nano scale. These surfaces can range from refined oil,
wet concrete, water, mud and other liquids. The supposed adhesion and abrasive
resistance traits then allow for a more diverse range of uses. Other claims include
anti-corrosive, anti-contamination and self-cleaning capabilities.
Specifications and features of our chosen solution
Simple geometric shapes - to be versatile with any shape of shoe sole
Waterproof sticker - does not allow micro germs to grow on it
Sticker like plaster - easy to use and to stick on it
Our proposed solutions
Solutions
1. Creating a new rubber sole for shoes for the elderly
-cheap and affordable
2. Inserting handrail everywhere
- able to support the elderly in times of need

5.Prevention
Interview
To study the case study deeper, we
interview the public to find out ways to prevent falls that occurs to elderly
due to slippery floor.
Persona 1

Name : Nur Anis
Name : Nur Anis
·
Age : 23
·
Sex : Female
·
Race : Malay
Anis is a student studying in NTU (Nanyang Technological University).
She is born in Singapore and was raised by her grandparents ever since she was
a baby. Due to her parents busy work schedule, her grandparents were the one
who raised her up. She and her grandparents stay in a 3-Room old HDB flat at
teck whye at storey 8. The old HDB buildings doesn’t have a lift to every floor
instead, the lift only stops at the first storey, the 6 storey and the 11
storey. However the HDB consist of 12 floors in total. Every morning her
grandparents will wake up early to go to the community centre to go for their
morning exercise but in order to do that, they have to go down the stairs in a
dimmed lighted staircase to reach the 6-storey in order to get to the lift to
reach the ground floor. Due to the bad maintenance of the HDB sometimes the
water from the pipes will leak and puddles of water will be form on the stairs.
What worries Anis is the safety of her grandparents when going down the stairs
because of the puddle. Elderly doesn’t have a good pair of perfect eyesight due
to old age and the muscles in their body isn’t as strong as when they’re still
young. For a good and safety precaution for her grandparents and elderlies
staying in the HDB, Anis suggests putting rubber mats on the staircase to
reduce frictions between the shoes of the elderlies and the floor of the
staircase. Putting railings on every side and corner for the elderlies is also
a main thing to this precaution as they can also have something to rely and
support on in any worst-case situation. In any worst-case situation whenever
the place is slippery or there are puddles of water, the elderlies don’t have
to worry about falling since the rubber mats will also cushion their fall and
lessen the impact avoiding a serious or long-term injury.

Presentation skills
10 KEY POINTS IN MAKING A GOOD PRESENTATION.
1. Framing your story.
Conceptualising and framing what you want to say is the most vital part of preparation.
2. Planning my delivery.
Memorising your talk, which entails rehearsing it to the point where you internalise every word—verbatim.
3. Planning of multimedia
Using of slides or videos .
4. Putting it together
Preparing it before months , rehearsing many times.
5. Look at people
Observing people . Making eye contact with people
6. Stay on point
Dont waste their time . Stay on topic
7. Show emotion
Use intonation .
8. Talk to your audience
Be relaxed and conversational
9. Time your talk
Plan the schedule early
10 . Create a worthy leave behind
Give them something to remember you by .
Reflections
I think that for a good presentation , we must try to practice again and again .
WEEK 1 : Mind map on the theme and about empathy
FLOOR IS SLIPPERY WHEN IT RAINS
CASE - Some elderly work as a cleaner, the place where they are working at will be wet thus they have to walk slowly leading to being mentally tired .
CAUSE - Too little friction or traction between the footwear and the walking surface.
Hazards of wet floor- Slip and fall
Accidents and Injuries
( Concussion , head , back or neck injures )
Permanent Solutions- Rubber
Install ANTI-SKED ADHESIVE TAPE
Using ABSORBENT MAT
Alternative solutions - Non-slippery shoes
Slip resistant shoes
Grip pads
Spray on coatings
EMPATHY -
It allow us to understand people , within the context of my design challenge . It is me understanding the way they do things and why ,their physical and emotional needs and to think what is meaningful to them .
Why do we have to empathise ?
The problems We are trying to solve are rarely my own—designing for ELDERLY ,We must gain empathy for Elderly and what is important to them. It give us clues on what they do and feel .
It help us to learn what they need.
How to empathise ?
Observe - what they are doing daily , how they are doing . Dangers that they might encounter.
Engage - Learn to talk to them , ask them questions about their dangers .
Watch and Listen - Allow them to explain to them how they work steps by steps. Using the environment to engage more questions .
Reflections -
I must learn to understand what they are going through, what problems they are having , the worries that the elderly are having from their perspective as we students do not have any clues about what they are experiencing daily .
